Interview Don’ts

  • Don’t show up late or too early. Arriving late gives the impression of being disorganized and not prepared. It also conveys a lack of respect for the interviewer’s time. Being too early can show a lack of planning and may appear to impose on the interviewer.

  • Don’t smoke, drink, eat or chew gum during the interview.

  • Don’t talk negatively about current or past employers or managers. The interviewer will rightly assume that you would do the same about their company.

  • Don’t ask about benefits, salary, vacations or other perks on the first interview. Discuss those items when further along in the process.

  • Don’t assume that the interviewer learns more from your resume than during the interview. Your resume simply opened the door for the interview.
